There is another large JRPG series besides Final Fantasy with a rich history of memorable monsters – Dragon Quest.
While Final Fantasy evolved a lot over time, and especially in recent years, Dragon Quest sticks more to its classic roots. While I love that gameplay wise it also means that their monsters are a bit more “cartoony”.
One of the all-time classics of Dragon Quest is its version of the Golem, which looks like it has been build with bricks.
I recently stumbled upon a small action figure of it from Taito, which was just about the right size for the tabletop. Decided to repaint it and put it on a base to add it to my monster collection.
