I always enjoyed the more exotic (A)D&D settings like Spelljammer. When Planescape released as a spiritual successor to Spelljammer in 1994 I loved it. The setting itself was great, but what I really loved were the fantastic creatures that were given a spotlight. It also helped a lot that Tony DiTerlizzi created most of the initial creature artworks. Still own a copy of an AD&D Planescape Monstrous Compendium signed by Tony.
While the Modrons were not new creatures released with Planescape, I did notice them for the first time when the setting was released. They became a bit of a poster child of the setting for me and whenever I think of Planescape I think of Modrons (and of Erinyes, as I own a print of one signed by Tony).
When Low Level Encounter released a set of Modrons I decided it was time to finally paint some. I started from the bottom with the lowly Monodrone.
